MOKOPANE – Capt Mampaswa Seabi, Limpopo Police Communications Officer, said police members of various units across Limpopo worked together to make the ‘Safer Town Operation’ a success in Mokopane. The operation started at 07:00 and all operational units went out in full swing.
The operation took place at various points across Mokopane.
There were roadblocks around Mokopane and vehicle search points in town, buildings were surrounded and searched for any suspicious persons, items or drugs. The operation was lead by Brig Mosima Maila, Provincial Head of Crime Prevention and Col Isaac Mantjane, Station Commander of Mokopane who were directing the operation.
The following successes were achieved:
• Two vehicles were impounded.
• 2 377 people searched.
• Three people arrested for public drinking.
• One person arrested in possession of nyaope drugs.
• 59 summons on road traffic act issued.
• A number of foreign nationals were taken in for screening and verification of their documents.
In addition to the Safer Town Operation members of Mokopane police continued their weekly operations and also had various successes arresting suspects. Mokopane police arrested 12 suspects for cases such as drug trafficking Act, shoplifting, driving a vehicle without a licence, liquor act, fraud, theft out of a vehicle.
According to Sergt Irene Masingi, Spokesperson of Mokopane police, five of the suspects paid admission of guilt fines and seven suspects appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court and remain in custody for further investigation.
Lt Genl Neke Ledwaba said: “This operation was welcomed by the law abiding citizens of Mokopane.
“I want to thank the efforts of all hard working and dedicated officers and encourage everyone to continue with the fight against crime”.
