Muni boasts new fleet of 110 vehicles worth R91 million

The fleet was launched at the Polokwane Cricket Club last week by Executive mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng

POLOKWANE – Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng, said: “This is our first batch of new fleet vehicles which has arrived. We need 433 new vehicles altogether and they will be arriving in phases. As part of that contract the municipality has been allowed by the court to keep the entire fleet that was utilised by Fleet Africa during their contract period and we are making use of the 227 units we have. We still have our old fleet, around 240 units. Most of these units need to be disposed of, however”.

The addition of the 110 new vehicles, she added, means as a municipality they need to change their response time.

“With the new units we should be able to respond swiftly and assist our people, providing them with better service delivery in a fast and effective manner.

“We had a contract with Fleet Africa which expired at the end of February this year.

“As council we have decided to own our fleet and get assistance in terms of management of the fleet’s maintenance and other necessary elements to assist with the day-to-day functionality of the fleet but the ownership of the fleet resides with council,” she said.
