Youth’s murder leaves family devastated

The family of the learner who was stabbed and killed by a 20-year-old man after he broke up a heated argument between classmates, wants his killers to rot in jail.

LIMPOPO – Cells Moyane (15) from Xikukwane village in Giyani, was attacked by the older brother of a fellow learner.

Cells’ grandmother, Salamina Moyane Mohamed said her grandson’s death has broken her heart and she wants to see the perpetrators to rot in jail because she will never see her grandson again.

“He was the one who was supposed to bury me, not me burying him.

“He loved the church and was very respectful,” she said.

His brother, Elvis, said he was told by his brother’s classmate that he was trying to break up a fight between two of his classmates.

“I last saw him at around 20:00 before he left the house and I went to bed.

“The neighbours called me the following morning and told me my brother’s body was found in the yard. I’m deeply hurt by what happened. Life is going to be difficult without him as he was the breadwinner and used money he generated from piece jobs to care for me,” he said.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed the incident and said Cells and another learner engaged in a heated argument at school.

“Following the argument, the learner called his older brother and they followed the deceased home where the 20-year-old older brother stabbed and killed him with a sharp object,” Ngoepe said.

He added after the killing the community torched the suspect’s house but calm was later restored by police.

The suspect appeared in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on 20 March and the case was postponed to Thursday, 22 March when he was denied bail.

Cells was laid to rest last Sunday and police investigations are ongoing.
