Man (37) drowns during public gathering near Mankweng dam

The Police Search and Rescue Unit recovered the body on Saturday

MANKWENG – “It is alleged that the 37-year-old deceased was part of a group of people who attended a gathering that was organized in the area adjacent to the Molepo dam in the Mankweng Cluster on Saturday.

It is alleged that a 37 years old deceased was part of a group of people who attended a gathering that was organized in the area adjacent to the dam when he decided to go for swimming, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngeope.

The man apparently said he was going swimming, but when he did not return, others who were also attending the rally went to look for him but failed to assist him. The Police Search and Rescue Team were summoned to the scene and managed to retrieve the body, explained Ngoepe.

“The deceased was identified as Happiness Gololo from ga-Chuene village outside Lebowakgomo.”

The police have since opened an inquest case to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident, concluded Ngoepe.
