[WATCH] Dramatic arts bring Pemps learners to life

Each school has its own set of extramural activities which encourages learners to express their talent, whether it be on the sporting field, through debate, chess or dramatic arts among others.

POLOKWANE – Learners from PEMPS are preparing for the eisteddfod which is scheduled for later this year in Tzaneen. Among the things they are practicing for are storytelling, poetry, dancing, monologues and dialogues as well as samesprake among others.

One of the learners, Katlego Talane (12) is excited to show off her skills on stage.

“I decided to take part in dramatic arts as an extramural activity so that I can practice my acting and storytelling as I enjoy narrating stories in public as well as reciting poetry. I admire poets such as Maya Angelo and I find one of her poems, I rise, especially inspirational. I take inspiration to write my own poems from my everyday experiences which keeps me motivated to continue improving on my skills,” she said.

In the video, Katlego tells the story of the three little pigs, but with her own special twist.

Her friend, Lerato Seloana, is also in Gr 7 with her and said she is a poet at heart. In the other video she recites the poem, I am a woman, written by Lerato.

The poems speaks of a strong brave woman who overcomes life’s toughest obstacles, emotionally and physically, merely by believing that she can do it and that she is capable.
