An accident on the R521 to Mogwadi on Tuesday afternoon claimed the lives of two paramedics and left another person seriously injured.
The paramedics were travelling in an ambulance owned by a private company while the other vehicle was a double cab bakkie. One of the drivers reportedly overtook recklessly on a solid line and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle. Department of Transport and Community Safety Spokesperson, Matome Moremi-Tauyatsoala indicated that the ambulance caught fire after the collision. He further said the paramedics were declared dead on the scene while the driver of the bakkie was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Westenburg Police Station Spokesperson, Mpandeni Nkuna emphasised that the report they have indicated that the ambulance carried no patients. He urged motorists to obey the rules of the road to stay safe. He further stated that motorists should rest when they are tired and cautioned that motorists should consider resting in a public place to avoid being hijacked.
