Grade R learner electrocuted on school premises, dept to investigate

The five-year-old child was electrocuted at Mutsha Primary School in Thondoni village near Makhado on Thursday.

LIMPOPO – “It is alleged that the Grade R learner was moving within the school premises near the classrooms when she was electrocuted by an electric wire. She died instantly‚” said Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The deceased was identified as Vhuthuhawe Madala of Mutsha village.

Spokesperson for the Department of Education Sam Makondo said: “The department is deeply saddened by this tragic incident and sends it’s condolences to the family, friends and relatives of our learner in this difficult time.”

The department, working with the Department of Social Development has dispatched eight social workers to the school to help the girl’s family, pupils and educators deal with the tragedy, added Makondo.

The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident is being investigated by the Levubu Police, concluded Ngoepe.
