Class and wittiness is what you can find in the new VW Polo

Bosveld took the new Polo TSI Comfortline for a test drive and was left with the feeling of wanting more.

MOKOPANE – One might think that with only a 1.0 petrol engine this sassy car might be a bit of a slowpacer, but it’s the total opposite.

This car is nippy and does not shy away from speed. It is available in three trim levels: the Trendline, Comfortline and the Highline.

This 1-litre turbocharged engine is capable of 70kW@5000 r/min and a five speed manual transmission is standard for this three cylinder model. A 7-speed DSG is also available with a capability of 85kw@5000 r/min . It will also save you from burning a massive hole in your pocket. It is economical and Volkswagen claims it’s fuel consumption is as little as 4,5 litres per 100km. This sixth generation car impressed us with it’s stop-start technology which also limits fuel usage. The top speed on this nifty Polo is 187km/hour.

The sophisticated interior gave us an even more comfortable ride. The new Polo has a completely redesigned interior offering more room for the driver as well as the passengers.

Apart from its new and attractive exterior styling, we noticed a new cabin design with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen fitted in the centre of the dashboard.

A sleek yet simple interior matches the classy exterior.

A full list of radio stations, GPS capabilities and road assistance are available at the touch of a finger. We were surprised to open the glove compartment and find that CD’s and SD cards must be entered inside to play your preferred music. Only USB ports are available underneath the display screen. A hands-free bluetooth system is also part of the infotainment.

It is also very safe to drive as the Polo features a total of six airbags. The standard air-conditioning definitely helped driver and passanger keep cool in the hot summer sun.

The exterior of the car leaves a sporty feel and the new Polo is bigger than before resulting in a more spacious cabin.

The wheelbase has also grown, making the grip to the road exceptionally well while passing the bends. Daytime driving running lights are always there to be used to make yourself more visible to other drivers.

According to Bennie Oosthuizen, Dealer Principal of Unitrans Volkswagen Mokopane, the new Polo is one of the top sellers on the floor after the Polo Vivo.

“Many people love this car because it is not that expensive and it has a lot more features than the older version.”
