Staff of Legislature temporarily moved during office ‘spruce up’

The renovations and maintenance are done in accordance to a prior assessment.

POLOKWANE – About 80 staff of the Legislature have been temporarily moved from their offices in Lebowakgomo while the offices are in the process of being spruced up.

The Legislature is a tenant of the Department of Public Works, which means the Legislature is not involved in the renovations or maintenance of the building.

“The renovations and maintenance are done in accordance to a prior assessment,” Joshua Kwapa, Spokesperson of the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, told Review when asked about the renovations.

“It comprises general repairs and maintenance.”

He said the process is estimated to take about 12 months to complete.

Meodi Mothapo, Spokesperson for the Legislature, said the staff are accommodated at the old SARS building and Block 4, which are both part of the former Lebowakgomo government office complex.

No information about the possible commencement of the building of the long-awaited Legislature in Polokwane was forthcoming.

The land where the legislature is to be constructed in the eastern part of Polokwane, near Savannah Mall, has been secured a few years ago, but construction has not yet commenced.
