Pretoria police constable among suspects arrested for fuel theft in Thohoyandou

Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday after they drove away having not payed for the fuel dispensed.

LIMPOPO – According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, police in Thohoyandou have arrested three (03) suspects between the ages of 25 and 37-years-old for theft by false pretenses.

Ngoepe says on Monday, 5 March, at around 21:46, a BMW with a GP registration plate arrived at the Muledani filling station with three passengers inside. The driver requested fuel and handed the petrol attendant a bank card to swipe for payment.

The card declined and the car drove away and disappeared.

“Fortunately, the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, 6 March after police officers identified the BMW during routine patrol duties in Phiphudi village, on the outskirts of Thohoyandou,” Ngoepe said.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that one of the three suspects, is a police constable attached to a police station outside Pretoria, in Gauteng.

“During the arrest, a police blue light was also confiscated and we believe the suspects might be linked to other offenses that were reported around the province,” Ngoepe said.

All three suspects will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court soon on charges of theft by false presence and possession of suspected stolen properties.

Police investigations, including the origin of the police blue light, are continuing.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba, has commended the quick and brilliant reaction by police.

“It serves as a stern warning to all criminals out there that Limpopo Province is not a playing ground for them,” he concluded.
