‘Mokopane now just a dumping site’ – DA councillor

This is according to Yolande Coetzee, DA ward councillor, who accused Merriam Molala, Head of the Mogalakwena Municipality Community Department.

MOKOPANE – “I am tired of the excuses from the municipality that there is no equipment or staff to clean the town. The town is overgrown and dumping of rubbish is becoming the norm.”

This is according to Yolande Coetzee, DA ward councillor, who accused Merriam Molala, Head of the Mogalakwena Municipality Community Department.

Coetzee told Bosveld that for the past two years the municipality has had no equipment after it was stolen. “Molala is not answering any written submissions for reports on these equipment or actions taken to recover it. Why haven’t there been any investigation launched on the missing equipment?”

The department currently has no lawnmowers, bush cutters or even a TLB to dig graves. The TLB for the parks division has been standing outside the municipality for the past two years and graves are being dug by hand. Molala ignores her responsibility towards the community to deliver proper services.”

Coetzee said she submitted a letter on 15 February to Molala requesting feedback on the reason why she is not approving requisitions for necessary equipment. Coetzee said until today that quotations has not been approved and the slowdown in purchasing equipment can not be due to lack of money. “The municipality has purchased four new tipper trucks for community service recently. In the meantime Molala appoints service providers and contractors to do the same work that municipality employees should do.”

“Why must our town suffer because of one person’s incompetence. Clearly there is a lack of commitment and leadership within this department. If these services were rendered as it supposed to be, it wouldn’t have been necessary for me and residents to try and keep the town clean, as this is the actual function of the Municipal Community Services Department.”

Bosveld did not receive any response from Molala or Malesela Selokela, Head of Communication at Mogalakwena Municipality before publishing.
