Police make major breakthrough following failed cash-in-transit heist outside Groblersdal

The Police have made a major breakthrough with the recovery of rifles and a vehicle which was used during the attempted cash-in-transit heist near Letebejane village outside Groblersdal on Thursday.

LIMPOPO – The swift reaction and determination of members of the officers deployed soon after reports of a attempted heist led to the recovery of a black (not navy blue as previously reported) Volvo motor vehicle near the mountains adjacent to Mohlalaotwane village, Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“A joint police operation comprising various police Units, closed all the routes in and around the area, possibly resulting in the suspects taking a road that forced them to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot, explained Ngoepe.

The Volvo, a R4 rifle with 34 rounds of ammunition and two magazines, one AK 47 rifle with a magazine and 22 rounds of  ammunition, two bags and a blue jacket were confiscated, he added.

Investigations revealed that the recovered Volvo was reportedly stolen in Brits Policing area in the North West Province during February 2018.

Police still urge anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects in this matter to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.

Suspects flee empty handed after failed cash-in-transit-heist outside Groblersdal

LIMPOPO – The Rakgoadi Police ask the public’s assistance to help identify a group of armed suspects who attempted to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle near Letebejane village outside Groblersdal earlier today.

The cash vehicle was travelling along the Leeuwfontein and Apel-cross road when the incident occurred.

According to statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, at around 08:30 this morning a group of suspects travelling in two vehicles, a white Mercedes Benz and navy blue Volvo, allegedly started shooting at the van forcing the driver to pull the vehicle onto the side of the road. The suspects, wearing bullet proof vests, approached the vehicle and used explosives to blow up the vehicle, however fled the scene before any money was taken, explained Ngoepe.

“The police who were summoned to the scene came across the suspects in the said vehicles along the way, however on approach the suspects started shooting at the officers who returned fire until the suspects fled the scene in the vehicles. These two motor vehicles were reportedly later found abandoned in different areas,” said Ngoepe.

During this incident no injuries were reported, Ngoepe confirmed.

The suspects in this matter are still unknown and there is no arrest. Police urge anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects in these matter to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.
