2 dead after vehicle is swept away in floodwaters outside Giyani

The incident occurred while they were attempting to cross a stream at Roadhuis village near Malamulele

LIMPOPO –  The Malamulele  Police are investigating two counts of inquest after two people were killed when their bakkie was swept away by flood waters outside Giyani on Sunday 25 February 018.

According to statement issued by Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the incident occurred at around 18:40 while they were attempting to cross a swollen stream at Roadhuis village.

“The police were immediately summoned and the search operation by the Police Search and Rescue Unit ensued until the body of the female passenger was retrieved.

“The body of the driver was however trapped in the submerged vehicle and was only successfully retrieved from the water in the early hours of Monday morning,” said Ngoepe.

The two deceased have been identified as Khazula Philimon Simango (64) and Joyce Olivia Chauke (46) from Nwadzekudzeku village, he confirmed.
