Water shortages and the sporadic supply of water will soon be a thing of the past for residents of wards 2, 3 and 4 of Botlokwa Ramokgopa in the Molemole Municipality after Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) recently introduced contractors and project steering committees for water projects to the community.
According to CDM Media Liaison Officer, Moffat Senyatsi, the projects will benefit households in Sephala, Mokopu, Makwetja and Nthabiseng villages and are anticipated to be completed between September and November this year.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Energy, Monica Mohale is quoted to have said at the handing over ceremony of the projects to contractors, that CDM expects quality workmanship and value for money on all projects. She emphasised that contractors who do not perform according to specifications, timelines and budget will be penalised. “When we say a project is complete, the contractor must see to it that there is water flowing from the taps and both the ward councillor and the contractor must sign off for that to confirm that the project is functional before final payment can be effected,” she said and added that the projects are milestones towards the goal to increase access to water and improve the lives of the people.
“Mohale gave marching orders to the project steering committee and said they must ensure that they work hand in glove with the contractor and report to the traditional authority on a regular basis,” Senyatsi reported.
Senatsi also confirmed that CDM will continue to roll out more projects in Blouberg Municipality at Lethaleng, Ga-Machana and Senwabarwana as well as in Lebowakgomo Zone B and in Mphahlele, Phalakwane, Mogodi, Makurung, Dithabaneng and Groothoek in Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality during this week.
