Polokwane Municipality and members of the Solomondale community, which includes Sebayeng, will work together in a process to ensure that the current water infrastructure servicing the area is checked on a regular basis to ensure sufficient supply of water to the area in future.
This is one of the resolutions that was taken during a stakeholder feedback session held with community members by Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng on Tuesday following community unrest in the area for the last two weeks. Residents burned tyres and blocked streets in Sebayeng and the local municipal depot had to be closed and protected to prevent vandalism.
Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo confirmed that Nkadimeng met with community representatives last Thursday. “They presented their water challenge issues and other issues related to stakeholder relations. The meeting was prompted by one of the borehole pumps that supplies the area breaking down and resulting in parts of the area not receiving water,” Mothapo explained and added that Nkadimeng said that the municipality operated with an open door policy and that her office together with that of the Speaker and the Chief Whip will always be available to intervene where communities are experiencing challenges.
