[WATCH] Body of driver retrieved from wreckage on R37

The body of a truck driver who died when the truck he was driving plunged into a river alongside the R37 road at Sefateng-Ga Chuene, was retrieved on Wednesday morning.

LIMPOPO – It is alleged the driver of the truck lost control due to the slippery road, causing the truck and trailer to jackknife and veer into a river alongside the road. During the incident three passengers sustained injuries and the driver was trapped in the wreckage.

According to a statement issued by Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, officers from the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, Polokwane EMS personnel, the Fire Brigades of Polokwane and Lebowakgomo were called to the scene at around 22:00 on Tuesday night and worked tirelessly into the early hours of the Wednesday morning to free the body of the deceased from the wreckage.

The injured parties were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The identities of the deceased and the injured will be released in due course, concluded Mojapelo.


One dead in R37 truck accident

LIMPOPO –  The R37 road at Sefateng-Ga Chuene is open following a fatal truck accident which occurred at around 19:00 on Tuesday evening.

It is alleged the driver of the truck lost control due to the slippery road, causing the truck and trailer to jackknife and veer into a river alongside the road.

The driver of the truck died and the second trailer blocked both lanes of the road resulting in the road being closed for several hours, said Transport Spokesperson, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.

The exact cause of the accident will form part of a police investigation.
