One security officer shot and injured during N1 North CIT robbery

Police have launched a massive manhunt for a group of armed suspects who attacked and robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle along the N1 North of Louis Trichardt this afternoon.

 

LIMPOPO – The said incident occurred at around 16:30 near the Hendrick Verwoord Tunnel, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Accordingto reports it is alleged that a group of armed suspects travelling in a Toyota Double Cab GT6 vehicle overtook the security vehicle and started shooting at them, forcing the officer who was driving to make a u-turn. When armed suspects travelling in three other vehicles also started shooting at the tyres of the van, the driver was forced to bring the van to a halt alongside the road.

The suspects approached the vehicle and used  explosives to blow up the safe. An undisclosed amount of money was taken and one security officer was shot and injured during the incident. NO fatalities have been reported.

The vehicles used in the robbery include a white Toyota GT 6, a black M.L Mercedes-Benz, a dark blue bakkie and a white Mercedes-Benz. The suspects in the matter and still unknown and no arrests have been made as yet.
