Police unit commended for job well done following sentence of child rapist

Convicted rapist 28-year-old Naville Phadima Koma was this week slapped with a life imprisonment sentence in the Burgersfort Regional Court.

LIMPOPO – Only through the hard work of a dedicated and professional team from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit this criminal brought to justice, says Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

This sentence emanates from a rape incident which occurred during November 2015 at about 18:00 at Ditwebeleng village in the Mecklenburg policing area outside Burgersfort.

The accused lured the 11-year-old victim into his friend’s home where he raped her repeatedly, explains Ngoepe.

The police were notified and thorough police investigations led to the arrest of the accused.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has expressed his joy and gratitude and said, this sentence urgurs very well for the South African Police Service in this Province which gives prudence that the dedication and relentless pursuit of the case by this Unit ,resulted in this marathon and tough sentence.

I want to applaud the Burgersfort Cluster FCS on the outstanding investigative skills they have discharged and on the job well done. We congratulate and urge them to continue to do more in their endeavour to fight any form of sexual related crimes which affect our women and children so severely ,concluded General Ledwaba.
