R18 million to light the way for Mogalakwena villages

The next four months will be the last rural villages in Mogalakwena Municipality will be living in darkness, thanks to the Mogalakwena Mayor, Andrina Matsemela, and Eskom.

LIMPOPO – Villagers in Mogalakwena’s rural extensions are happy following the electrification site hand over by Matsemela who was accompanied by Electrical Services Chairperson, councillor Malesela Mokwele, ward councillor Mooka, municipal officials and contractors. Matsemela and the delegation embarked on a visit last Friday to eight villages in the Kromkloof, Ga-Monare, Setupulane, Ga-Chokwe, Monte Christo, Sodoma, Nelly and Paulos areas respectively to officially hand over R18 million electrification projects to the communities.
The programme started at Ga-Monare village, where 140 families will receive electricity. The headsmen said they welcome the development that government brings to the communities.
Matsemela said the municipality is appreciative of the patience these communities have displayed since the municipality consulted with them over its challenges.
“We were here last year May during the Mayoral Imbizo and we promised to build a house for Rinah Manganyi and kept the promise.
“We also made a commitment that very soon this extension will be electrified.
“In less than a year, here we are handing over the electrification project. That’s the ANC-led government, we promise, we deliver and we serve our communities.
“We carry the responsibility to improve the lives of our people. As government, we are going somewhere, working together with the provincial and national government we will bring more services like roads.”
Matsemela reminded residents who packed the Kromkloof Community Hall that all 178 villages in Mogalakwena Municipality are electrified, except new extensions.
“The communities have to work with the contractors and consultants to ensure that these projects are completed before their completion date. Come June, we want to be here to officially switch on, so can have nice winter season with your heaters and other electrical appliances on.”
“We understand that this project will also create temporary job opportunities in the duration of this project.  The project that is estimated at the cost of R18 million will bring electricity to 969 households from eight extensions villages.  “Ga-Monare will receive 140 units, Setupulane-61 units, Ga-Chokwe-171 units, Monte Christo-76 units, Sodoma-141 units, Nelly-130 units, Kromkloof-120 units and Paulos will receive 130 units. These eight projects will create a combined 300 temporary jobs,” Matsemela concluded.
