46-year-old warrant officer dies in state vehicle crash

It is alleged the officers were on their way to attend a protest situation at Atok in the Burgersfort Cluster when the accident happened

LIMPOPO – The Lebowakgomo Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after one person was killed and a second seriously injured in a vehicle collision along the R37 road on Friday morning.

The accident occurred next to Manglemang village outside Lebowakgomo at around 07:00 when the vehicle, a amoured Police vehicle (Nyala), they were traveling in plunged into a ‘donga’ beside the road, reports Police Spokesperson, Motlafela Mojapelo.

“It is alleged the officers were on their way to attend a protest situation at Atok in the Burgersfort Cluster when the accident happened. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle after a puncture and it then swerved off the road and plunged into the adjacent donga”, he explains.

Mojapelo further confirmed that the deceased, a 46-year-old warrant officer, died on impact and a 51-year-old officer sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner Lt General Nneke Ledwaba who also attended the scene, has on behalf of the Provincial Police management, members and personnel, conveyed his deepest words of condolences to the deceased’s family, relatives, friends and colleagues . He further wished the injured member a speedy recovery, concludes Mojapelo.
