Traffic moved at a snail’s pace this morning (Thursday) when traffic officials of Polokwane Municipality and the Police conducted a special traffic operation on Market Street in the vicinity of Railway Street, Ladanna.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo explained that such operations are conducted often to ensure road safety by checking vehicles’ safety features, driver fitness and outstanding traffic fines. He said the primary aim of the exercise was to ensure road safety and pointed out that such operations are not conducted at the same location.
Mothapo indicated that most operations are conducted together with the Police for motorists who were issued with warrants of arrest to be arrested on the spot. He said a taxi used by the traffic officials has special features such as a camera to scan the registration number of a vehicle from afar to check for outstanding road fines and the expiry date of the licence disc.
Mothapo urged motorists make sure to keep their vehicles are in good condition and comply with road regulations to avoid unnecessary traffic fines.
