Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) recently held their Valentine’s Day Mr and Miss PEMPS Mini pageant, in which PEMPS School Principal Karin Adlem explained how such pageants build a child’s confidence.

Aaron Prince: “I’m not really a modelling person, but because it’s part of the activities that we’re supposed to participate in, I have to play along. I enjoyed it very much though and my teacher also taught me how to represent myself in front of my classmates.”
POLOKWANE – “Participation in school modelling competitions can be beneficial in boosting a child’s confidence or winning a big cash prize at the end of the day,” she added.
In light of this event, she further laid emphasis on how such events build up a child’s self-esteem, but also shed some light on how these can also have a negative impact on both the child and the family involved, prompting the learners to carefully weigh out the advantages and the disadvantages of this as it may also impact participants on a psychological level. “Before parents or guardians decide to involve your little ones in the modelling competitions, it is important that you consider the possible lasting impacts that the participation may lead to,” Karin advised.
Review had the opportunity to talk to some of the participants, to hear how they feel about pageants:
Olerato Matlala: “I love modelling competitions and think modelling helps me have the confidence to speak in front of people. When I grow up I want to pursue a career in modelling because I have a passion for it.”

Le’Ray Sinclair: “My Dad encourages me to do good in everything I do, and that is what I did in the competition, I gave it my all.”
