Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo intends to approach the court regarding alleged corruption in the Department of Education’s school nutrition programme.
This follows the alleged failure of the department and the Office of the Premier to respond to a letter containing information relating to the alleged corrupt awarding of feeding scheme tenders. According to EFF Provincial Secretary, Jossey Buthane the parties were given 48 hours to respond.
In a document made available to Polokwane Observer, the EFF claimed that members of the selection committee for feeding scheme tenders had removed critical information from submitted bid documents in order to unfairly disqualify certain companies.
The EFF further alleged that members of the selection committee have been calling bidders to submit additional information such as vehicle lease agreements in exchange for cash to secure a tender. When contacted for comment Department of Education Spokesperson Sam Makondo and Premier’s Spokesperson, Kenny Mathivha indicated that Kgetjepe and Mathabatha were still studying the document and would respond in due course.
