6 000 late entry learners placed in school

Most of the 6 000 learners that were reported to still be without schools in the beginning of the academic year have since been placed.

POLOKWANE – This is according to Department of Education Spokesperson, Sam Makondo.

He added the children who are reported to still not have space is due to parents submitting late applications as they might have relocated from one place of work to another and are now looking for schools in their area.

“Part of the reason we as a department are still dealing with learners who aren’t placed in schools is because parents apply at schools too late or, in some instances, submit invalid proof of residence.

“This causes a problem and holds up the placement process at this late stage,” Makondo explained.

He urged parents to apply at the respective schools on time and keeping to the deadlines stipulated by the department every year. It is also important, he added, to ensure all their paperwork is ready when they apply.

Makondo said any parents who may still have issues can report to the department’s Circuit office in Biccard Street for assistance.
