501 suspects arrested during week long Lim SAPS operation

The suspects were arrested for various offenses varying from assault GBH, possession of dagga, house breaking, theft, drunken driving, armed robbery, murder, rape and possession of illegal firearms

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the police’s unrelenting determination to sweep all criminal webs around Limpopo is continuing to yield positive results.

Ngoepe says this was manifested during an intelligence led joint operation composing of various police units which were up and running until this morning, 13 February, in different areas.

“Police have, during a week of heightened activities, apprehended more than 501 suspects between the ages of 19 and 61-years-old,” he said.

The suspects were arrested for various offenses varying  from assault GBH, possession of dagga, house breaking, theft, drunken driving, armed robbery, murder, rape to possession of illegal firearms in all clusters.

In Maake, outside Tzaneen, one suspect was arrested while selling nyaope in Lenyenye. During this arrest, one tv and other drugs were recovered.

In Groblesdal, seven suspects between the ages of 31 and 40-years-old, were arrested for possession of firearms without licences and possession of counterfeit cigarettes.

The following items were recovered:
– Two cellphones
– One plasma TV
– One firearm.
– 730 (20s) of black and white cigarettes,
– 400 (20s) of rainbow cigarettes,
– 860 (20s) of RG cigarettes,
– 300 (20s) of cigarettes.
– One stolen car

In Burgersfort, one suspect (36) was arrested for possession of drugs and the following items were recovered:
– 50 sachets of nyaope and 80 sachets of dagga.
– One stolen car.

In Mahwelereng, two suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen properties and the following items were recovered

– Five black rebel boots

– Four overalls

– Two machine lights.

– One HP printer and adapter cable

– One 60m measuring tape

– One 1x5m measuring tape

– Two hake saws

– One grey Uno motor vehicle.

In Mankweng, Thohoyandou, Makhado, Modimolle, Westernburg, Tzaneen, Lephalale and Seshego, 54 suspects between the ages of 21 and 46-years-old were arrested and the following items were recovered:

– Cellphones

– Nyaope

– Computers

– Firearms

– Ammunition and magazines

– One tractor

– Cash

– Laptops

– Dagga

– Four cars.

Ngoepe says all arrested suspects have began appearing before different Magistrate Courts around the province.

“Police investigations in all the cases involved are still continuing,” he concluded.
