Suspects still on the run after robbing Burgersfort jewellery store

A group of suspects are still on the run following a robbery at a jewellery store in the central business district (CBD) of Burgersfort on Monday.

LIMPOPO – During the incident three suspects entered the Tubatse Mall store and took thousands of rand worth of jewellery.

“The suspects fled the scene in a Toyota bakkie and were heading out of town on the R555 road when they were  intercepted by members of the Saps Provincial Tracking Team. The trapped suspects started shooting at the officers, who returned fire until a high speed vehicle chase ensued,” said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

During the chase the suspects vehicle veered into the bushes alongside the road and crashed. The suspects disappeared into the bushes,” he said.

At the crash site jewellery (estimated to thousands of Rands) and the Toyota which was used by the suspects was recovered. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen last week Friday during a house robbery in the Tubatse township outside Burgersfort.

The suspects in this matter are still unknown and there are no arrests as yet.
