Mahwelereng businessman safe after kidnapping ordeal

A businessman who was kidnapped last week Wednesday in Tauyatswala village, has been found safe and unharmed, said the police on Monday 12 February 2018.

LIMPOPO – The victim was delivering stock when two suspects approached him and pointed at him with an object that looked like a firearm. During the incident the suspects took the victim hostage and loaded the stock (valued at R60 000) into his bakkie and fled the scene. A ransom amount of R90 000 was later demanded from the victim’s family.

According to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the quick response and a well-coordinated operation by members of the Trio Task Team, Mahwelereng and various units of SAPD, led to a breakthrough within days and the victim was rescued.  He was located along the road linking Mokopane and Tinmyne on Saturday.

Thee suspects have since been arrested and a fourth suspect is still on the run, confirmed Mojapelo. The arrested suspects will appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrates Court today (Monday) on charges of business robbery, kidnapping and attempted armed robbery.
