Man attacked and killed by lions in Hoedspruit

Police say the man's body was found after the lions were scared off by gun shots.

LIMPOPO – According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngeope, police in Hoedspruit, outside Phalaborwa, are investigating a case of inquest following the death of an unknown man on Friday night, 9 February.

Ngoepe says the process of identifying the man have commenced and that his head was among the remains found at the scene.

“Police are also investigating the possibility that the deceased might have been a poacher after a hunting rifle was found in the vicinity of the scene,” he added.

Police investigations into the matter continue.

Anyone who can assist the police in identifying the deceased is urged to go to the Hoedspruit police station.
