Man (42) to appear in court for alleged rape of young neighbour

A 42-year-old man has been arrested at the Oaks village outside Hoedspruit for the alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl, confirmed the police on Friday.

LIMPOPO – Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda reported: “It is alleged the child was alone at home on 3 February 2018 when the incident occurred. According to the mother of the victim she had left her daughter at home to go to church. She explained further that upon returning home her daughter complained to her of pains in her private parts. She bathed the child and put her to bed but the young girl complained about the same pains the following day.”

“A local resident alerted the mother about a man who was allegedly raping her daughter in her absence. After she confronted her daughter about this she managed to established that the suspect had been raping the girl for quite some time and she immediately alerted the police. A case was opened and after investigations into the matter the suspect was arrested.”

He will appear before the Hoedspruit Periodical Court on Monday on a charge of rape, confirmed Netshiunda.

The Cluster Commander of Giyani, Major General Mbazima Ngoveni condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms, saying children deserve to be protected by all. He concluded by commending members of the Family Violence, and Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for the sterling investigations that led to the apprehension of the culprit.
