Learners receive inspirational advice during special visit

Radio Turf partnered with the University of Limpopo, Mankweng police, Eskom, Mankweng Youth Development, Dr. Sboniso Ngwenya, Pentagon College and Save the Children for a recent visit to two schools to encourage learners not to lose hope or give up in life.

POLOKWANE – The schools they visited in the Mankweng circuit were Ditlalemeso Secondary School and Ramashobohle Secondary School and they addressed the learners, especially those in Gr 12, encouraging them to focus on their education and to keep away from criminal activities.

Deputy station manager at Radio Turf, Makwena Mamadi, told Review their visits were aimed at improving school functionality and to congratulate schools that achieved outstanding results during the 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, while also encouraging underperforming schools to pull up their socks this year.

Mankweng circuit manager, David Magagane, addressed the learners at Ramashobohle High School and advised them to prioritise their studies so they can excel academically. Magagane also urged the learners to abstain from sexual activities and drugs as well as spend quality time on their school work.

“I have never seen any successful person who is a drug addict, unles they change their ways, so please make sure you avoid them in your academic journey,” Magagane advised.

Salome Maponya, a Gr 12 learner at Ramashobohle High School, thanked all the stakeholders for their words of encouragement and urged her peers to make the most of the opportunity they have at the school and to network with their peers as this will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.

A student recruitment officer at the University of Limpopo, Gloria Maila, urged her fellow Gr 12 learners to begin applying for admission at tertiary institutions to avoid long queues and disappointment at the beginning of the 2019 academic year.

“We encourage learners to apply as early as possible and to prepare all application documents, including the applicant’s certified copy of ID, latest school results, proof of residence and parents’ or guardians’ ID,” Gloria said.

Eskom customer relations manager, Dikgabane Rampedi, donated study material to the learners during the visits and shared inspiring stories with them about successful people who attended the school.

“With hard work and dedication, there is no reason why the current crop of Ramashobohle and Ditlalemeso should not reach even greater heights,” he said.
