Highly wanted criminal apprehended and linked to crime spree in Tzaneen and Giyani areas

His list of crimes include vehicle theft, vehicle hijacking, housebreaking and robbery

LIMPOPO – The fight against trio crimes was given a major boost when the police succeeded in arresting a highly wanted suspect who has been was sought for not less than ten cases.

According to statement issued by Police Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the 39-year-old suspect has been terrorising communities in the Tzaneen and Giyani Clusters respectively since 2010.

His list of crimes include the following:

• theft of motor vehicle committed during 2012 in Maake policing area.
• car hijacking also committed in Maake during 2010.
• robberies committed in Namakgale 2015 and 2015 respectively.
• housebreaking in Bushbackridge during January of 2017.
• possession of automatic firearm in July of 2017.
• car hijacking in Phalaborwa during January of 2017.

During the years the suspect somehow managed to acquire bail on three occasions and in the process, committed some of these crimes whilst out on bail, said Mojapelo.

“The latest incident he hijacked a Audi in the Bolobedu area in January this year. The vehicle was later found abandoned at the suspect’s girlfriends house and he could not initially be linked to the crime. However after meticulous investigation he was eventually apprehended and through the sterling work of the  Tzaneen VCIU (Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit Team) he was linked to all cases:, explained Mojapelo.

The suspect will appear in the Lenyenye Magistrates Court on Monday 5 February 2018.

The Police Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba expressed his delight in the work done by all members involved. He encouraged all members to follow this example of linkages to rid this province of all repeat offenders.
