Two Limpopo SAPS officers arrested for theft, corruption out on bail

The two police officials arrested for alleged corruption have been granted bail of R1 000 each after appearing before the Bela Bela Magistrates Court earlier today.

LIMPOPO – Hawks spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, says the suspects, who are stationed at the Pienaarsriver Police Station, were arrested after a lengthy investigation after information emerged that the two accomplices allegedly demanded a R20 000 bribe from a motorist who they stopped along the  N1 road near Pienaarsriver on Tuesday 9 January 2018. During the incident is is further alleged that the suspects stole R210 000 from the same motorist.

Both suspects are expected to re appear in court tomorrow (Friday 2 February 2018).


LIMPOPO – Two police officers attached to the Pienaarsriver Police Station were arrested for corruption and theft on Wednesday, confirmed the Hawks on Thursday 11 January 2018.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, the two accused, a sergeant (39) and a constable (40), were arrested for reportedly demanding a bribe from a motorist who they had stopped along the N1 road near Pienaarsriver on Tuesday afternoon (9 January 2018).

Maluleke explained: “It is alleged the accused had searched the vehicle and discovered an undisclosed amount of money. It is further alleged they threatened to charge the complaint with money laundering and demanded a R20 000 bribe. Shortly after the incident the complainant found that R210 000 was indeed missing and opened a case at the police station.”

Following an investigation by the Hawks the officers were arrested on Wednesday, 10 January 2018 and appeared before Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court today on charges of corruption and theft and were remanded in custody.
