Agri dept warns about scam artists offering jobs in exchange for payement

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development warned graduates seeking internships as well as jobseekers that scam artists are on the prowl, masquerading as officials who offer them jobs in exchange for payment.

LIMPOPO – “The matter came to light when prospective jobseekers approached the department and disclosed they were requested to pay R500 to secure a job with the department. The caller reportedly asked the applicants to pay the requested money at identified money markets as well as proceed to identified medical centres around Polokwane for medical tests,” Department Spokesperson, Selby Makgotho, said.

He added this was in response to internship posts which were advertised and recently closed.

Makgotho added the department wished to state categorically that there is no such thing as selling jobs nor will they ask anyone to act as recruitment agent for the department.

The matter has since been reported to the police and the department’s anti-fraud and corruption section.

Makgotho urged anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to contact their nearest police station or the department’s anti-fraud section at (015) 294 3000.
