Mazda 2 tested: Dynamically sporty, fun for the masses

MOKOPANE – If the Japanese had their way, every car on the road would be sexy, sporty and super cool. That’s exactly what Japanese automaker giant Mazda went for with its latest generation compact hatchback.
The Mazda 2 1,5 Dynamic automatic, tested here, is the smallest model in the manufacturer’s current portfolio but definitely proves dynamite comes in small packages.
This chic car is perfect for the everyday driver as it is both fuel efficient and economical. It uses 5,7l/100km of fuel on average, even though it has a sporty ride to it with its unique SKYACTIV engine design. This car impresses with power thanks to 82kW at 6000rpm on tap.
It definitely impressed Bosveld with its roar when accelerating through turns and on the straights.
Mazda claims this six-speed automatic transmission’s top speed is 184km/h. Cruise control is readily available when you want to relax on the open road after starting your engine at the simple press of a button. A smooth ride highlights a very light steering handle.
Even the practical and modern interior takes Mazda’s ‘Kodo Soul of Motion’ design philosophy up a notch.
The steering wheel, handbrake handle and gear shift knob is leather wrapped which rounds off the standard cloth seats.
It keeps cool with strong air conditioning and handles according to your comfort with tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustments.
Infotainment isn’t a minimal and audio controls are available on the steering wheel within easy reach.
A seven-inch full colour touch screen display is situated right in the middle of the dashboard to control the radio, CD, auxilary jack, USB and SD card capabilities as well as the Bluetooth hands-free system. The boot of the car is quite roomy and can fit your shopping or suitcases with ease.
Don’t be fooled by its compact figure – there is more than enough space inside.
