Following their impressive 96,81% pass rate they amassed in last year’s matric results, Taxila Secondary School won’t be settling for anything less than 100% this year.
This is according to Deputy Principal Sammy Madzhia who stated that they have already put plans and structures in place to ensure that the 2018 Grade 12 class studies without hindrances and the 100% target is feasible.
“We did well last year but we want more. We want to compete with top performing schools in the province such as Mbilwi, Thengwe, Dendron and Hoërskool Pietersburg. We can improve from last year’s pass rate, we had 157 students who wrote their final examination, 152 passed and five failed. Even though we would have loved all learners to pass, we are happy with the outcome because it is an improvement from 2016’s 93, 4% pass rate. We want to improve every year and our target for this year is a 100% pass rate and we are gunning for it.”
“We have already lined up study camps for all our Grade 12 learners and during those camps learners will be studying one subject per day in June and September. We will also be offering extra study lessons during the week and on Saturdays,” added Madzhia.
Unlike many schools Taxila started with their 2018 academic programme on Monday already.
According to Madzhia they are making their intentions clear of attaining the envisaged 100% pass rate. “We started on Monday with normal classes and learners were happy to back in the class after a long break. Again we want ensure that by May we are done with the syllabus, that will give learners ample time to revise and prepare for the final year examination,” added Madzhia.
Congratulating the 2017 class, Madzhia said they were proud of their achievements and wished them the best in their future endeavours. “They did the school proud and we are saying to them they must continue with the hard work because success is a journey, not a destination.”
