Traffic flow along the road to Modjadjiskloof was affected on Friday after an excavator transported on a lowbed truck became wedged under a concrete bridge in the vicinity of Mall of the North.
The height of the cargo seemed to be a problem and employees of a private firm were battling to free the excavator. When Polokwane Observer arrived at the scene there were no traffic officials were available to control the high volume of traffic. Damage to infrastructure was observed but the driver of the truck refused to comment.
Polokwane Municipality’s Communications and Marketing Manager, Matshidiso Mothapo when contacted referred Polokwane Observer to the Department of Transport and Community Safety whom he indicated was responsible to dispatch traffic officials to the scene. He also said Roads Agency Limpopo (Ral) was responsible to give an update on the damaged infrastructure.
Transport and Community Safety Spokesperson, Matome Moremi Taueatsoala informed that the incident had not been reported to the control room nor recorded in the occurrence book. At te time of going to press efforts to get comment from Ral had proven fruitless.
