Tumi Mokwena, defence attorney for double murder accused Rameez Patel, withdrew from the trial proceedings in the Limpopo High Court earlier today (Monday).
Patel’s alleged failure to pay for Mokwena’s services is among the reasons for his withdrawal.
Patel’s brother, Razeen is back in the country from London after being recalled to testify on a certain matter of the trial. Mokwena indicated that Razeen’s new statement implicated him in some alleged malpractice during court proceedings and therefore also opted to withdraw from the case. Floyd Legodi will take over the case as of 6 February.
Patel stands trial for the alleged killing of his wife Fatima in April 2015. Judgement is also expected in his bail application on 2 February in connection with the allegedly murder of his mother Mahjebeen in September last year.
