Limpopo records highest decrease in road fatalities during festive period
The Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, announced the 2017 festive season road death statistics on Monday 22 January 2018.
According to the statistics, Limpopo was the star performer with the highest reduction in the number of fatalities between 1 December 2017 and 15 January 2018, followed by the Free State and KwaZulu Natal.

“The province has recorded a decrease in road fatalities by 27% and accidents were reduced by 17% during the festive season in 2017.”

“The highest number of fatalities was among pedestrians which increased from 34% a to 37% and fatalities among drivers also increased from 23% to 27%. However, there was a decline in passenger fatalities from 41% to 35%.
“We recognise that the successes we have achieved this year would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our traffic officers,” Maswanganyi concluded.
