LIMPOPO – Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo reports: “In what could be regarded as the most inhumane and barbaric incident, a group of residents from Moletjie Diteteng attacked two men, who they believed responsible for the spate of Plasma Tv screen thefts in the area. They then assaulted them and later threw them into an old water hole that was used to supply water to the local community.”
“The police were alerted to the situation and upon arrival, the two victims could still be spotted from the deep hole. South African Rescue Service (SAR) and the EMS personnel were summoned to the scene and finally succeeded in rescuing both victims. The men were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.”
The police urge anyone with information which can assist the police in their investigation to contact the nearest police or call the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 0860010111.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba condemns in the strongest possible terms the seemingly persistent incidents of mob justice that have become prevalent in some parts of the province.
“As the police we will not tolerate any acts of vigilantism and mob justice, and people who resort to taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with mercilessly,” concluded Ledwaba.
