Four robbery suspects arrested following a tip-off to police

Police launched a manhunt for suspects after a tombstone factory in Mokopane was robbed at midnight last Wednesday.

MOKOPANE – According to Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, police received information that a businessman was on duty with co-workers when the suspects entered the guard room and ordered the workers to cooperate at gunpoint.

“The suspects then tied the victims’ hands and feet with shoelaces and broke into the office, ransacking it and escaping the scene with R5 300 in cash, two cell phones, granite cutting plates, buffs, boxes of various items, overalls and electric equipment,” Masingi told Bosveld. Mokopane police launched a manhunt for the suspects with members of the Mahwelereng Cluster Trio Task Force.

The investigating teams received a tip-off from the community during the manhunt regarding the whereabouts of the suspects.

“The team followed up on the information received and it led them to the arrest of four suspects between the ages of 39 and 45. Upon their arrest the suspects were found in possession of housebreaking implements. A fifth suspect is still at large and investigations are ongoing.”

Some of the suspected stolen goods that were confiscated during the arrest.

According to Masingi the total value of the goods stolen is estimated at over R34 000. The police request anyone with information that can lead to an arrest to contact Capt Daniel Moserwa at 071 672 8614, the nearest police station or the toll-free Crimestop number at 08600 1011.

The suspects appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court and will remain in custody until their next court appearance on 24 January.
