Westenburg Police are investigating an inquest docket after a nearly complete human skeleton was found buried in a shallow grave at the corner of Pietersburg and Hill streets in Ladanna by a team of labourers digging a ditch for the purpose of installing fibre cables last Thursday.
Provincial Police Corporate Communications Head, Motlafela Mojapelo stated that the Police received a tip-off at around 15:57 after a discovery made by a safety environmental officer performing his construction duties on the site. Mojapelo said Police responded and found a human skull missing its lower jaw. He added that neither the gender nor the age could be determined and it was also not clear whether any criminal activity was involved.

The shocking discovery was made by a labourer, Siyamcela Sonkwela who said he got the shock of his life when he pulled out a bone that came out with a human skull. Sonkwela told Polokwane Observer that he called the team of labourers to the spot to see the remains before contacting the site manager.

The human skeleton unearthed by contractors digging a ditch in Ladanna last Thursday.

Site manager Vengai Runanga stated that he was at a shopping mall when he received a call and all he did was to advise the team to call the Police while he made his way to the site.
He said he arrived at the same time as the Police and could not believe what he saw.
Runanga said they had started with the project a day before the gruesome discovery and reiterated that they will continue working regardless of what they have discovered. He further said the bones found buried about 1m deep looked as if it could be a complete human skeleton.
