Gogo shares 105 year-old wisdom
One would truly believe age is just a number when one meets Gogo Mantsitshi Seshoka who celebrated her 105th birthday on Friday, 5 January.
LIMPOPO – Blessed with a total of six children, 24 grandchildren, 57 great grand-children and eight great-grand grandchildren, Gogo Seshoka from Bochum has been living a long and fruitful life which she attributes to healthy eating and regular exercise.
“This is the only thing that made me strong and I sometimes still feel young throughout my old age,” she added.
Despite her age, Gogo Seshoka still has her vision as well as most of her abilities in place. In addition to the previous two, she also attributes this achievement to the respect of God and others which she deems as a crucial weapon in survival.
“I grew up in a poverty-stricken and dusty village, going to church and worshiping God because I knew He was the only one who had the ability to bring me thus far in life. I raised my children, grand- and great grandchildren and I now feel I have done what God had asked from me,” she said.
Grateful for the well wishes and support, she also mentioned her wishes of enjoying a big birthday cake on her special day but was unable to do so due to her current frail health. “I believe God still has many more years to shower me with and I have confidence that more huge celebrations are still on the way,” she added.
Her age, which often comes with unwarranted ailments, also enables her to serve as a beacon of wisdom as her daughter Makgoba Seshoka would put it. “I remember how she would spend the whole day talking about God and how she grew up and that made us happy. We believe my mother will be a good example to the country and the world as a whole, proving that one can still live a long life,” she said.
When Gogo Seshoka isn’t imparting her share of wisdom on the minds of others, she sits quietly, going about her business watching television with all her grandchildren.
