“An eyewitness alerted police and a search rescue team (SAR) was immediately established and commenced with the operation. The body was only recovered yesterday, 13 January, around 10:00 in the morning,” Manamela explained.

In the Ritavi policing precinct, the body of a 48-year-old woman was found floating in the Khujwana dam around Khujwana village on Saturday afternoon.

In Lephalale, police are investigating a case of inquest after the body of a man was recovered in the Mogol river on Sunday afternoon.

“A 64-year-old male was fishing in the river with his friends when his fishing rod got stuck. He drowned attempting to retrieve it,” Manamela explained.

The deceased has been identified as Jonas Letswalo of Marapong village and police investigations continue.

Police investigations in all three cases still continue.

“We want to warm communities that as much this year’s seasonal rains are minimal, the current waters in our dams can still be life threatening if approached without the necessary precautions,” Manamela concluded.
