Alleged child support fraudster re-arrested

She allegedly defrauded Sassa of almost R70 000

LIMPOPO -The case against a 64-year-old woman,  previously arrested in connection with the alleged defrauding of Sassa, was remanded to January 23 after her court appearance in the Lebowakgomo Magistrates Court today, the Hawks confirmed.

The suspect was initially arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime unit in March 2013, following allegations that she applied and received child support grants for three non-existent grandchildren between 2002 and 2012, said Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

“She had appeared in court and was released on a warning to return to court at a later date, but she never returned, resulting in a warrant of arrest being issued. She was re-arrested on Saturday 13 January 2018.
