The Limpopo Police’s Safer Festive Season Operations are still in full swing and men and women in blue had several successes during a provincial crime prevention roadblock on the N1 South between Polokwane and Mokopane earlier today (Friday).
According to Provincial Police Corporate Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo 841 vehicles and 2 697 people were searched, 34 undocumented foreigners arrested, one person arrested for possession of dagga, two vehicles impounded, 28 drivers screened for driving under the influence of alcohol and 29 speeding fines issued. One person was also arrested for unlawful possession of three pump action shotguns and a R4 assault rifle plus ammunition, according to Mojapelo.
The roadblock also focussed on promoting the series of operations as well as awareness on domestic violence with almost 4 000 pamphlets being distributed among motorists.
Mojapelo warned that similar operations will continue to be conducted across the province, especially over the weekend when more people are expected to return from their holiday destinations.
Mojapelo indicated that the roadblock was manned by members of the Public Order Policing Unit (Pops), Operational Response Services, Air Wing, Vehicle Identification Services (VIS), Visible Policing Unit (Vispol) from Seshego, Polokwane and Mahwelereng Clusters, the Department of Transport and Community Safety, the Department of Home Affairs and Mahwelereng Community Policing Forum (CPF).
The roadblock was led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Jan Scheepers and also visited by Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba, who joined in the search of vehicles and people.
