POLOKWANE – On 6 January, the party established two new branches in the deep rural area of Blouberg in Limpopo.
This is in line with the party’s policy to work towards rural upliftment and poverty eradication. The branches were established in Schoongezicht B as well as Old Longside and recently elected its management teams.
Roelofse addressed new member and stressed the need for a confederal form of government to decentralise power to regional structures.
“The current constitutional dispensation and the consequent form of government is expensive. The RSA.P is campaigning for constitutional changes that will see leaner government, meaning a smaller cabinet of about 10 to 12 portfolios and doing away with provincial governments. The political arm of local government should also be scrapped and the technical and service delivery components should be placed in the hand of semi-autonomous regional governments elected on a constituency basis. There will be about 30 to 35 such regions. This will bring governance that are able to implement their regional policies, closer to the people,” he said.
Roelofse also stressed the need for peace and reconciliation.
“It is time to not only proclaim we are tolerant but to live tolerance; it is a time not to speak of reconciliation but to love our neighbours. An injury to one is an injury to all. It is time to live as people sharing common boundaries, a time to build and not to break. It is a time for books (knowledge) and spades (hard work). Let RSA.P be a catalyst of reconciliation and neighbourliness. We are called to make a difference.”
