Tips to help keep children cool in the heat

With searing hot temperatures over the past week in Limpopo, it is important to keep cool to avoid getting heatstroke.

POLOKWANE – It is especially important for the elderly and children to stay well-hydrated by drinking lots of water, applying generous amounts of sunblock and keeping in shade as much as possible.

Review spoke to the Principal of Magic Castle Pre-school in Flora Park, Cheryl Coetzer, to find out how parents and teachers can help keep children cool in the heat.

She explained children under the age of 10 years find it especially difficult to cope with hot temperatures resulting in them becoming easily irritated and uncomfortable.

“I have extensive experience working with young children and it is best to keep them well-hydrated by encouraging them to drink water whenever it is hot instead of cold drinks which are less healthy for them,” she said.

Tips for staying cool and protected in hot weather:

“These tips should help any teacher to have productive and calm days whenever it is hot,” she concluded.
