Lepelle discusses successes, challenges and way forward

The management of Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) recently met with the media regarding the successes and challenges faced by the entity.

POLOKWANE – Chairperson of the Board, Kennedy Tshivashe, said LNW is the main provider of bulk water to municipalities in Limpopo, but finds itself operating and servicing municipalities that have a high rate of indigents and unemployment, factors dictating LNW to set affordable tariffs without compromising its sustainability.

Regarding the situation in Polokwane, which has suffered several water interruptions as recently reported in Review, it will be addressed by the construction of the Olifantspoort package.

The package of 10 Ml/day is underway and set to be commissioned on 30 April. It is going to deliver water to Fetakgomo Municipality, resulting in additional water available for the Polokwane Municipality.

The company looks back on 57 years of supplying bulk water and plays an active role in the contribution of critical skills within the water sector by partnering with both the National Treasury and the Department of Higher Education and Training to do basic skills training and for learners to be exposed to the work environment.

LNW invests between 3% and 5% of its total annual budget in training and development of employees and non-employees to ensure the availability of skills and experience required for the business.
