Twelve arrested for allegedly looting groceries at N1 accident scene

Of the twelve suspects, ten are women says the police

LIMPOPO – 12 suspects found to be in possession of goods which were allegedly looted at an accident scene have been arrested, confirmed the police on Wednesday, 20 December 2017.

It is alleged the suspects, residents from a local community, helped themselves to an assortment of groceries which was scattered over the road after a truck overturned next to the Hendrick Verwoed tunnel along the N1 at around 04:00 on Tuesday morning.

According to Makhado Cluster Spokesperson, Const Radzilane Tshifhiwa, the driver of the truck and the passenger were conveyed to the local hospital for medical attention after sustaining some injuries. The police were notified of the alleged looters and managed to arrest 12 suspects, 10 of which are women aged between 23 and 54-years-old and seize two bakkies with full loads of suspected stolen goods.

The suspects, believed to be from Tshikuwi, Maname paradise Waterpoort, will appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Police investigations continue.
