LIMPOPO – The South African Police Service has once again condemned the continuous attacks of elderly persons in the province following the incident which occurred at Tshikuwi villagein the Mphephu Policing area outside Thohoyandou on Tuesday, 19 December 2017 at about 18:40.
Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says it is alleged that the deceased, Elsie Makhokha, was last seen walking into her house followed by the accused, her grandson. Shortly afterwards smoke was seen coming from the house… family members screamed for help whereby residents broke the windowpane and pulled the deceased out of the house and notified the authorities.
Makhokha was certified dead on the scene by EMS personnel.
The suspect (grandson) attempted to flee the scene but locals chased him down and captured him and summoned the police to arrest him.
The motive behind this incident is still unknown and police investigations still unfolding.
